SEO RULEBOOK USER'S MANUAL |
| |
|
Illustrated
User's Manual
Please be patient as this page might take a moment to completely
load.
(This page contains a TON of screen shots so get some
coffee) |
|
This tutorial will take you through the software
screen by screen and explain the different features. The
interface of SEO Rulebook may change in the future so what you see
may be slightly different then the current version but it should
generally look the same. |
|
Main Menu Selection |
|

|
|
The SEO Rulebook Website Analyzer &
Optimizer |
|

|
|
This section is the actual SEO Rulebook software. The
Website Analyzer and Optimizer will transform your site into
perfectly optimized web pages based on keyword density and SE
friendly rules. This is the first section this manual will
talk about. This is an automatic system for keyword density
optimization. |
|
Keyword Density Analyzer |
 |
|
This is the keyword density analyzer. This
is a density editor which will allow you to optimize your site
from a contextual level. Unlike the Optimizer -- this is a
manual system for optimizing your keyword density for those that
want to do it by hand. |
| Help And FAQ |
 |
| This will bring you to our FAQ, User
Manual, and online forums. |
|
WELCOME SCREEN |
 |
| If you choose the SEO Rulebook Website Analyzer &
Optimizer selection from the menu you will be brought to this
screen. This screen is just a welcoming screen.
Continue by pressing the Continue button at the bottom of the
screen. |
|
Load or Create Screen |
 |
| You will now have the option to load an project or
create a new project. Assuming this is the first time you
are using the software lets "Create a new project". |
|
Create New Project |
 |
| To create a new project you will need to give your
project a name. This can be any name you like. The
name does not effect the way the website is optimized and is only
used to help you identify which website your currently working
with. I am using "My Tutorial Project" as an
example. |
|
Choose Site Directory |
 |
Now Rulebook needs you to locate your website
files. In order to optimize your website you must have your
website files on your hard drive. These files are your HTML
pages, graphics, and any scripts you might have installed.
You can obtain these files from your webmaster, web host, or by
using an FTP to download them from your domain. If you do
not have access to your website HTML files then email me and I can
teach you how to download them using FTP software. Navigate
the folder to the correct location of all your site's HTML files
to be optimized. If your files are on your Desktop or other
Windows folder then first navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\
and choose the correct user. From there navigate to the
DESKTOP directory and you will see your desktop folders at that
point.
|
|
Select Your Keywords |
 |
This screen asks you to enter your website's
keywords. Only enter single keywords like
"Mortgage" and not phrases like "Home
Loan". If you wish to add a phrase word
like "California mortgage" then enter both words in separately.
It does not matter the order in which these keywords are
entered. To enter a keyword type the keyword in the
box as shown below. For example I have entered
"Refinance".
To add the keyword press the "Add Keyword" button or
press the "ENTER" key on your keyboard. This will
move the keyword to the Master Keyword List as shown below.
You can Remove keywords from the Master Keyword List by selecting
the keyword you wish to remove and pressing the "Remove"
button as seen above. You can also Clear All keywords by
pressing the Clear All button as seen above.
To Add Keywords from a text file press the LOAD button.
Select the text file of keywords you wish to load and press
OK. Make sure your keywords are in the correct format.
Each keyword must be placed on a single line. Below is an
example of a correctly formatted keyword list in notepad.
You should focus on a small selection of keywords on each of your
websites. I would recommend targeting 5-10 keywords per
website.
Note: Do not use over 100 keywords. This can make
the optimization process extremely long and less effective.
For best results only use SINGLE keywords and not phrases.
|
|
Primary Search Engine
Target |
 |
| This is your primary search engine. Choose
the engine that you would like the Rulebook optimization engine to
optimize for first. This will be the engine you see the best
results from. I would recommend to use Google for your first
test. |
|
Secondary Search Engine
Target |
 |
| This is your secondary search engine. Choose
the engine that you would like the Rulebook optimization engine to
optimize for second. This will be the engine that you see
"next to best" results in. I would recommend
using Yahoo or MSN for your first test. |
|
Google's Keyword
Density Optimization |
 |
This section is targeted towards Keyword Density
that many search engines including Google use to determine keyword
phrases. The Google Keyword Density Optimization feature is
required at this time. This feature will make Rulebook's
optimization methods "density" driven and optimize your
page to produce keyword rich pages. Pure Keyword
Optimization then this will give you the ability to determine
a "ceiling" and "floor" density level for your
keywords. For example, the Target "Ceiling"
keyword density will tell Rulebook that you do not want any single
keyword to be make up over 4.5% of your overall content but
you would like Rulebook to make your primary keywords 4.5% or
close to it. If you have 100 words on your website then you
would want your targeted keyword to appear 4 -5 times but no more
then that. Your Secondary Keyword "Floor" density
is the opposite. This feature says that you do not want any
of your targeted keywords to fall below 2.5% or 2
1/2 times per 100 words. You can set these levels to any
determination that you like. Our PowerUpdate
tests are currently showing best results with 4.5% ceiling and
2.5% floor. Keyword density is very important to
determine ranking and you must have keyword rich pages in order to
rank well on the search engines.
Another Example: If you set your keyword
density to 5% ceiling and 3% floor then if your webpage has 100
words your top 5 keywords (or pure keywords) would
"optimally" appear 5 times and your secondary keywords 3
times each. |
|
Link Optimizer |
 |
|
You will now be taken through a series of
standard optimization techniques.
You can disable this technique by un-checking the Enable box at
the top. With each technique you can determine if you wish
to target Google as your primary engine or Yahoo as your primary
engine with this feature. All of these techniques are
optional.
|
|
The Link Optimization Title Tags |
 |
These title tags help visitors navigate your
site. For example, highlight
this link with your mouse cursor and you will see the keyword
"SEO". These tags should be inserted with your
links and can be used to help keyword density. Enabling this
feature will insert these tags on the links of your pages
accordingly to your density needs.
|
|
Keyword Tagging
Optimizer |
 |
|
You can disable this technique by un-checking the Enable box at
the top. With each technique you can determine if you wish
to target Google as your primary engine or Yahoo as your primary
engine with this feature. All of these techniques are
optional. |
|
The Bolding or "Keyword Tagging" Optimization
Process
|
 |
 |
|
Search engines commonly use tags to determine
keyword ranking. Keywords in bold letters or separated
within their own tag receive higher ranking then keywords in a
paragraph. By bolding your targeted keywords you can
increase your SE ranking. You can choose to optimize using
this technique by choosing if the tag should be Visible (actual
bolding) or Invisible (using a 'I' tag). Both have tested to
be an effective form of optimization. |
|
Table Keyword
Optimization |
 |
|
You can disable this technique by un-checking the Enable box at
the top. With each technique you can determine if you wish
to target Google as your primary engine or Yahoo as your primary
engine with this feature. All of these techniques are
optional. |
|
The Table Tagging Optimization
Process |
|

|
| Tables are a great opportunity to increase keyword
density without effecting the way the page interacts with the
visitors. After studying numerous websites utilizing this
tactic we did our own tests and had great success ranking websites
under isolated keyword phrases using table alt tags.
Rulebook can now optimize your table tags for you based on your
current density needs. |
|
Image Tag Optimization |
 |
|
You can disable this technique by un-checking the Enable box at
the top. With each technique you can determine if you wish
to target Google as your primary engine or Yahoo as your primary
engine with this feature. All of these techniques are
optional. |
|
The Image Tagging Optimization
Process |
|

|
| Adding ALT tags to your images is not only time
consuming but painstaking across websites with thousands of web
pages. Rulebook will automatically tag all of your images
for you based on your keyword density needs. |
|
External Links
Reporting |
 |
External links hurt your PageRank which in turn
hurt your website ranking. The external link report tell you
about every outgoing link on your website to you and the severity
of the outgoing links on your site. You should enter your
domain in the box above to let Rulebook know which links should be
considered internal.
For example: If the name of your domain is http://www.ABC.com
you should enter it in as ABC.COM . If your website is http://www.abc.com/learning/
then you should still enter it in as ABC.com . Only enter in
the actual domain name.
|
|
Optimized Title |
 |
| The Optimized Title feature allows you to create up
to 5 optimized titles. When each site is optimized it
will calculate the density of all 5 provided keywords. The
website will utilize the title under the keyword with the highest
original density. This is a good title practice to
distribute density smart titles to all of your web pages.
You can press the "Rate" button to receive helpful
advice on making a better title.
This feature is not for everyone. Only use this feature
if your site sells multiple types of products and you need to
optimize the title by primary page density. If your unsure
about using this feature then its better you don't.
For Example:
You should use this feature if your website sells three unique
products that are very different likes Cars, Boats and Homes.
You should not use this feature if your website sells picture
frames, paintings, and home decor because its all part of home
decoration and your site will not have the density to support the
change in title.
|
| Not interested in an
optimized title? Type in the keyword "NoTitleHere"
and any title description. When the keyword is not found it
will not replace your current title. |
|
Advanced Settings |
 |
| These settings will allow you to optimize different
types of files. If you Enable ASP Optimization then
Rulebook will optimize ASP pages in addition to your HTML
pages. The same as true if you Enable Text File
Optimization. This will optimize any text file on your
website which can be tricky so be careful when using this
feature. When you Enable PHP File Optimization it
will scan all PHP files for html code to optimize.
Confused? Check Enable ASP and Enable PHP and
press the continue button just to be safe.
|
|
Density Reduction Using
WordImages |
 |
Density reduction is a part of my WordImage
technology that helps websites reduce the density of unwanted
keywords that can hog the spotlight of your search engine
optimization efforts.
For example take a sentence like this:
For the best rate your
mortgage lender can help you find the right loan best for
your financial situation.
In this example your primary keyword is "Your" and
"For". Of course you would rather target the
keyword "Mortgage" and "Loan" but having many
common words can ruin this for you. If you notice the
density patterns of high ranking websites you will find they
dedicate an enormous amount of effort to reducing common words and
unwanted keywords.
Rulebook uses image technology to reduce these unwanted
words. Words such as "for" will be replaced with
an Imageword instead of using the actual word. Not only does
this increase the density of desired keywords but it also gives
your website more optimization opportunities.
ImageWords can cause problems with some components like
titles. Although this feature works without
many issues it is always recommended to check your website for
forms and titles that may contain commonly used words such as
"and, but, for, we, you, your, and others". J
Now not all websites need keyword density reduction. All site need keyword density increased but not all sites need it reduced.
I would always recommend first optimizing your website with this
feature disabled at first. Then, if your keyword density is
still too low then I would enable this process.
|
|
Top Five Pure Keywords |
 |
The Top Five Pure Keywords are your primary
keywords. These are the keywords the software will focus on
throughout the optimization effort. You want to enter in
these keywords from #1 (being most important) to #5 (being least
important). You should also take into consideration keyword
phrases when selecting these keywords. These should be
individual keywords and not phrases.
You should decide your primary keywords by asking yourself what
keyword phrase you want the most. Your primary phrase is
going to be the first three pure keywords placed together and you
will also benefit from the phrases the keywords make up using each
other (in order of course).
For Example: If you wish to
target the keyword phrase "California Home Mortgage"
then you should enter #1 (California), #2 (Home), #3 (Mortgage)
rather then #1 (Home), #2 (Mortgage), #3 (California) . The
order in which these keywords are entered does make a difference.
The Top Five Keywords are different then the keywords provided
earlier. Your Top Five will be optimized before your other
keywords and Rulebook will directly focus on the density of these
individual words. The goal of your density optimization is
to make these five keyword density as close to optimal level as
possible. Once this goal is obtained it will then take a
look at your other keywords and optimize them the best as possible
with the page it is given.
|
|
Confirm Your
Information |
 |
| This is just a confirmation screen that tells you
what keywords your using, your project name, the files to be
processed, and where the "Optimized" pages will be
saved. |
|
Optimize Now |
 |
You will be asked to choose the Rulebook you wish to optimize
your site using. I would suggest using the Enhanced Engine
for the majority of your optimization needs.
| Standard Engine - Supports basic
Rulebook functions and the original Rulebook release
without power updates. Great for
"one-shot" optimization efforts and quick jobs. |
| Enhanced Engine - Full Rulebook
engine with penalty reduction, PowerUpdates, syntax
checking, and over 230 optimization techniques. This
is best for webmasters that want to stay competitive in
the SEO industry. |
| Adsense Engine - Specialty engine
for large adsense websites. |
| Blog Engine - Specialty engine for
multitread blog websites. |
| Adult Engine - Specialty engine for
large adult sites with many pages that are picture post
driven. |
Choosing the Rulebook that is best for you is important.
The Standard engine is a strong optimization process but is
limited in its ability to reduce penalties and maintain whole
density. The enhanced engine is our ongoing optimization
package that we keep up to date with the best performing SEO
tactics. It can reduce site penalties, fix syntax, and apply
tactics that the standard engine cannot. Specialty engines
utilize the Enhanced engine but they are different in the way they
handle files. Adsense pages should be handled and optimized
differently then Blog sites for example and this is why we
developed special rules and techniques for a range of site styles.

Optimizing Your Website |
 |
The Optimization Screen shows your process on
optimizing your pages. This process can take up to a few
hours to complete on large bulky sites or only a few minutes on
smaller web pages. You can see the tally of changes
made beside each box. You will also notice each box turn
green as it performs the optimization method on the current
file. This screen will tell you how many files have been
optimized, the Estimated Human Hours (how long it would take you
to do this by hand), and the file it is currently operating
on. The Rulebook calculations is the number of times
the software makes changes, calculates density, optimizes your
keyword structure, or checks page syntax. Rulebook
filters is the check and balance system designed within
SEORulebook. This calculation shows the number of times
Rulebook has checked its work, made changes to prior optimized
pages, and determines the overall quality of the
job.
Operate In Safe Mode: If you are using your computer
or trying to surf the Internet while optimizing your page you
might want to check this box. Safemode slows the
optimization process down and attempts to keep CPU usage low which
will keep your computer running smoothly during the process.
It also keeps a report status on the process of your optimization
effort. This means if your computer shuts down or freezes
you can resume the optimization process where you left off.
Disable Reporting Safemode: If you are working with a very
large website (700 pages or more) then you can disable the
reporting. Report data can be massive and if you are
optimizing a project that may take days to finish then you might
have to complete the optimization within 3-4 sessions.
Resuming where you left off can take a while on these large sites
because Rulebook has to recall the reporting data before it can
begin. Disabling the Reporting will allow you to continue
where you left off without loading this data and can save you a
lot of time. However, I would only use this feature if your
optimizing a very large website and you plan to use multiple
sessions to complete the optimization.
When optimization is complete you will be taken to a reporting
screen.

How To Register |
 |
Registering SEO Rulebook is easy.
To register click on the "Register SEO Rulebook" box as
seen above. |
 |
| You will see your Registration ID which will start
with the letter R and be followed by a 10 digit number. You
will need to provide this number to me via the order form or by
email when you purchase. Once you have successfully
purchased SEO Rulebook I will then email you a Registration Unlock
Code much like the one seen above. It will be a series of
numbers and letters in the following format:
XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXX. You can then enter this
registration unlock code and press the CONFIRM REGISTRATION
button. This will unlock SEO Rulebook. You will then
need to reset (turn off your computer) for the registration to
complete. |
|
Density Analyzer |
 |
The Keyword Density Analyzer is a great way to
naturally optimize your keywords. This editor will give you
a % breakdown of your websites keyword density and allow you to
edit the page by hand and determine density as you go. This
works very similar to a HTML editor but with less design features
and is more SEO driven. This editor is not meant to design
html code but rather just to calculate keyword density and to make
contextual changes. You can access this editor by
pressing the section (as seen below) from the menu
screen.
The screen will open a blank editor
page. To open your website page click on the FILE tab as
displayed below.
This will bring you to the next screen shot as seen
below.
|
|
Density Analyzer |
 |
| To the left you will see a file navigation
area. Select the drive, directory, and file you wish to
open. To open the file DOUBLE CLICK on the filename.
This will bring you to the next screen shot as seen below. |
|
Density Analyzer |
 |
Once your website is open you can make changes to
its content just like any HTML editor. You can use the File
menu to save your changes even in the demo version. To
Analyze your density click on the
button that you see on the left hand side. This may take a
moment so be patient. The ALTs box allows you to turn
off or on the ability to analyze image, table, and link ALT /
Title tags. |
|
Density Analyzer |
 |
|

|
Here you will see a complete break down of
the web page's density. This will tell you the # of
times the keyword appears, the % of its total page
content, and the keyword itself. In this example you
can see the keyword density for the first two keywords are
a bit high and the keyword density of the word
"the" needs to be reduced. You can then do
this by hand with the editor where you see fit. This
is the manual way of changing keyword density. |
This is the contextual way of changing keyword density and some prefer
those method rather then using automation. We have included
both style of tools to help you in this process.
|
|
This concludes the current release User Manual. Email me at Support@SEORulebook.com
if you have any questions on how to use the software or if the
software is not properly optimizing your website.
